What moves can I do on an inversion table?
by Steve Pfiester
Inversion tables were first designed to relieve back pain by decompressing the spine and improving circulation to the discs. Inversion tables can also help stretch and strengthen core muscles that contribute to good posture. When performing moves on an inversion table, less is more. Start by inverting for a few minutes, and see how your body reacts to the traction. If that works out well, try the following exercises:
- Rotation. While inverted, reach with your right hand to the left table leg, rotating your body. Then, switch and repeat on the other side.
- Sit-up. From an inverted position, engage your abdominals, reach your arms towards your legs and roll all the way up to touch your feet.
- Squats. Fully inverted, engage your glutes and hamstrings to bend your knees and bring your buttocks towards your feet, as if doing an upside down squat.
