Rock Your Walk

Add these four quirky twists to your trek:

  • Heel hoe-down. Strengthen the muscles in the front of your shins and ward off plantar fasciitis by walking on your heels for 30-second intervals.
  • Cha-cha-cha. Quickly step right-left-right, and then left-right-left. The rhythm changes and syncopation will help build your coordination.
  • Getty up. Gallop sideways to strengthen inner and outer thighs.
  • About face. Turn around with your back to the front of the treadmill. Hold the hand rails, and take long, slow strides backwards to feel it in your calves and glutes.
