Inversion Table 101

Inversion Table 101

What is it? An inversion table is intended to promote the release of spinal compression and the relaxation of muscles and ligaments that surround the spine. Most exercises that you perform compress the spine. As a matter of fact, there’s a certain amount of spinal compression at play even when you’re standing and sitting, simply due to gravity.

How does it work? The inversion table defeats the laws of gravity, allowing the spine to spend some time in a completely relaxed, decompressed position. Simply put, by being inverted, you release pressure from the spine. There are not many (if any) pieces of equipment that offer the unique benefits of an inversion table. It’s in a class by itself.

How long should you invert? The shallower the angle, the longer you can invert. Start mildly at about 20-30 degrees for 10 minutes. Consult your doctor for specific recommendations.
